The Companion wasn't designed to be a typical "traditional" longbow. I associate it's design closer to what the "semi-recurves" of the past were. However, today this style of bow is usually called a "hybrid" longbow.
Hybrid longbows (or semi-recurves) typically have a little larger riser than what most traditional styled longbows have, incorporating a semi-pistol or full pistol grip, with a sight window cut to center or past center. The limb design on most hybrid longbows usually deflex from the riser and reflex towards the tips, but not enough so that the string actually contacts the belly of the limb, like it does on a recurve. This type of design usually makes a quick and quiet bow, which is a great combination for a hunting bow. This type of riser and limb design also helps eliminate the hand shock commonly associated with most traditional styled longbows.
The Companion longbow was designed with a low wrist, semi-pistol grip and 5" sight window, cut 1/16" past center. The narrow deflex/reflex limbs taper from approximately 1 3/8" at the fade outs to about 5/8" at the tips.
Those who usually prefer shooting a recurve and are looking to try a longbow, will especially appreciate this bow!
